Unproductive

I was extremely unproductive at the drawing table last night, but not for lack of trying. My brain and my drawing hand were having some sort of disagreement because every time my brain thought of something interesting, my drawing hand refused to cooperate.

So instead of not posting anything today, I quickly doodled this sad lad with a humongous head.

Space strut

Sure, man had previously walked on the moon...but Spaceman Steve was the first to strut on the moon.

Pants are not optional

Stanley was told to wear tall boots while hiking in order to avoid snake bites...but nobody said anything about pants.

Stanley wouldn't make that mistake again.

NASA's secret

What the U.S. Space Program doesn't want the general public to know is that the Mars Rover is literally nothing more than a dog named Rover that they rocketed to the surface of Mars.

Lacking ambition

Doug the Drowsy Desperado had ambitions to rob a bank and make a name for himself. He dreamed of being infamous and seeing his name on a wanted poster. The problem was, Doug the Drowsy Desperado never actually got around to doing it. He would plan the heist in great detail, wake up in the morning ready to execute his plan, yet in the end he always ended up just having a nap instead.

Salesmen

The Beasley brothers were the top door-to-door door salesmen in the country.

Five years ago, Floyd and Lloyd took over the business from their father, who at 78 years old, was no longer able to carry doors door-to-door. With the brothers working together, they can cover more distance, and sell more doors, then their father ever could.

Running late

Poor Howard, he's late for work. The strange thing is, he's self employed and works from home.

Field research

World renowned naturalist and bird watcher, Walter W. Walters, is seen here doing what he does best...tracking rare birds. He's confident that the ever elusive Hairy-Headed Woodpecker will not elude him.

Walter looks rather stoic with the breeze blowing his beard, don't you think? As for the woodpecker, despite the wind his hair isn't moving at all. I suspect he uses an assortment of hair care products to keep it in place.

Fashion tip

Fashion tip of the day: Always match your boots with your beard.

By the way, I've started to sign my work. That makes it real art, right?

Lunch

A gnome eating a sandwich for lunch. If you think that's exciting, wait until I draw him eating dinner.

Although he looks content, it's a bit sad to see him eating alone. I guess gnomebody wanted to have lunch with him.

Sorry about that. I couldn't resist.

Illustration Friday: Noise

Here is my humble submission for this weeks Illustration Friday topic, "Noise."

This is definitely not the noise I'd want to hear if I were that bird. I don't think this will end well for our feathered friend, but at least he seems completely oblivious to his imminent demise.

Pedalling for pies

Charles Winkleton, an eccentric novelist and beard enthusiast, along with his friend and business associate Alfonso the Duck, ride two hours into town on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Their destination was Earl's Pie Palace. Earl's wasn't much to look at from the outside, but this was of little concern to those who knew what was served on the inside. Earl's made the most heavenly pies of every kind imaginable.

Charles always ordered the same thing, a slice of lemon meringue. Alfonso the Duck was a bit more adventurous though and liked to try something different with each visit. Today he was eager to try a slice of strawberry rhubarb.

Hairy Howard

Howard is an avid runner. He believes his moustache and chest hair are the secrets to his speed. He is also certain that they are a contributing factor in regards to his success with the ladies.

I've included both the original inked version of Howard along with the coloured version. I like them both for different reasons.

Illustration Friday: Jagged

This was my submission to Illustration Friday last week. The topic was "Jagged."

To my surprise and delight, this piece was chosen as the "Pick of the Week." That definitely made my day. Considering it was my first time submitting to the site I'll chalk it up to beginners luck.

Check it out here.

Welcome!

Welcome to the re-launch of Happy Fun Hour! Technically speaking, this is Happy Fun Hour 2.0. I originally started this blog back in 2009 and had a wonderful time running it. However, I was abducted by aliens and disappeared for a few years. Damn aliens.

I was fortunate enough to connect with a lot of amazingly talented and friendly artists through this blog. I hope to reconnect with them and meet many more!
