Turnip Toss

This is Harold. He's participating in the Tri-County Turnip Toss Tournament. Back in 1973, Harold was considered the best. He held the title of Turnip Toss Champion for 6 straight years. At the peak of his fame though, Harold was bitten on his right arm (his turnip tossing arm) by an overly aggressive duck at the park. As a result, he was unable to defend his title, he was not able to turn pro, and all of his sponsorship deals were cancelled. Even the ladies (who had formerly thrown themselves at him) were no longer interested.

Harold fell into a deep depression that lasted for years. He married and divorced 3 times, he became addicted to gambling, and he wasn't able to hold down a job for more than 6 months at a time. In a particularly rough stretch in the early 1990's, Harold was forced to live in his 1979 Ford Pinto, sharing the confined space with his faithful dog, Higgins. In an unfortunate incident during that time, Harold accidently backed over Higgins in his Pinto, killing him.

Then, one fateful day, he saw a sign in a restaurant window that read "Today's special: Turnip Soup". Instantly, Harold felt a rush of adrenaline that he hadn't felt in years. That afternoon, he bought 4 turnips from the grocery store and tentatively tossed them. His competitive juices coursed through his veins and he knew what he had to do.

Attempt a comeback.

This is a truly inspirational story. I've only eaten turnips, I had no idea they were so versatile.

Poor Higgins, though.
